Dr. Marilize Pretorius is an applied linguist. Her research interests include and to some extent combines approaches within English for Specific Purposes, English for Academic Purposes, English as a lingua franca and Intercultural Communication. She has experience developing (online) language and communication training in various contexts (South Africa, Belgium, Iraq) and for various purposes (i.e. nursing, business, academic). This includes working in interdisciplinary teams with experts from across the world.
In this TraINErS project, she participated for Interculturate (IC). IC helps raise language users’ awareness of their professional communication skills and profile. IC has experience in developing contextual needsanalyses that form the basis for responsible design of curricula and syllabi. The approach they used is constructive and takes the learner as the centre of attention in order to foster optimal learner autonomy leading to lifelong learning skills and engagement. IC has specialised in blended learning and inverted (‘flipped’) classrooms and ensures best quality through constant quality assessment of learning and teaching products and process.
